Biopropane
Renewable LPG, molecule-identical to fossil propane. For the industry that sits beyond the end of the gas network.
The same gas, from a different place
Biopropane is propane. Not a substitute, not a blend component, not something that behaves almost like it — the identical C₃H₈ molecule, produced as a co-product when waste oils and fats are hydrotreated to make HVO. It meets the same commercial propane specification as the fossil product.
Which means the switch is genuinely nothing: the same tank, the same regulator, the same pipework, the same burner settings, the same cylinders. You do not empty anything, recommission anything or recertify anything. The tanker that arrives simply contains a different history.
Why it matters
For everywhere the pipeline stops
A large share of European industry has no gas connection and never will — the sites are too remote, too small individually, or too seasonal to justify the trench. Those operations are usually told that decarbonisation means an electrification project they cannot afford and a process temperature they cannot reach. Biopropane is the answer that requires neither: a renewable fuel that drops into equipment already installed and already certified.
Where it fits
Four places it earns its price
If you buy propane or butane today, in bulk or in cylinders, this is a like-for-like swap.
Ceramics, glass and brick
High-temperature kilns cannot be electrified economically at current tariffs. Biopropane gives you the same flame temperature and the same control curve as fossil LPG.
Food processing and baking
Direct-fired ovens, fryers and steam raising, where the flame touches the product and fuel quality is a food safety question as much as an energy one.
Agriculture
Crop and grain drying, greenhouse heating, poultry and pig house heating — seasonal, rural, and almost never within reach of a gas main.
Forklifts and site equipment
Cylinder-fed forklifts in warehouses and cold stores, plus temporary heat and bitumen work on construction sites.
Supply formats
How we can supply it
Full substitution or a fixed blend percentage, tracked on mass balance so the certificate matches the molecules.
| Format | Delivered as | Best for | Typical GHG saving |
|---|---|---|---|
| Biopropane 100% | Bulk tank, road tanker | Full substitution, maximum saving | ~80%+ |
| Biopropane blend | Bulk tank, road tanker | Phased transition on a fixed budget | proportional |
| Cylinder supply | Standard cylinders | Forklifts, catering, small sites | ~80%+ |
